In their first book, Dr. Haltzman and his coauthor Theresa Foy DiGeronmio outlined a recipe for men about growing a happy marriage: treat marriage with the same sense of purpose, resolve, and single-minded devotion that they have for their job.

Although that workplace formula works well for men, an entirely different set of criteria resonate with women. Read more Read less. Kindle Cloud Reader Read instantly in your browser. Customers who viewed this item also viewed these digital items.

This is not how women feel about what they converse about with each other. We do suspect that men talk about nothing. How can women take an author seriously who repeatedly insults them? The worst part of the book is the chapter about sex. His premise is that men want intercourse and women should let them have intercourse because only through intercourse do men feel close to women and that if he feels close, she'll feel happy.

He states that men always want sex and that women don't, that women want emotional connection. And he's wrong. Not all men want sex all the time. And most women do want sex for the same reasons men do.. Of course women can use the direct communication that the author recommends to help the guy out in this department but the book would have been stronger if any of the sex chapter was actually about sex.

I have not read this authors book giving advice to men but in this book, women are encouraged to mind read men and to not expect men to mind read them. I do hope he advise men to actually attempt the clear communication he so encourages women to do. Women really can't mind read men as much as he thinks. The craziest part of the book was the example where the husband wakes the wife up at 6 am on a Saturday asking her what is for breakfast and to let her know he does not have any clean underwear.

This "happy" wife gets up to make breakfast and do laundry. But keep in mind not all men are the same. I just got married not too long ago and I felt like me and my husband weren't doing well, he wasn't being the romantic and attentive man I married for a while and I felt so alone cause I moved far from friends and family and now with a husband that I felt that didn't care much well you could imagine how lonely that felt, I read marriage books all the time and this one sums it up pretty well, I could honestly say this book fixed everything, we are back to how we used to be before marriage we barely argue and when we do we care a lot about each other so it doesn't get out of hand the first few chapters were great honestly it made me see things I never would of thought of in my husband and what was wrong.

Something's I really didn't agree with like the sex chapter how it said "it's hard for him to show love without his penis" something like that, this book is very pro men and I think when it got to this chapter the author put a lot of his personal feelings into it which simply means not all men are close minded and just want fast sex a lot of men do need to feel connected and loved by their wife's, it makes men seem like animals that don't want emotional intimacy and it's telling girls to just have sex even when you don't want to but I know that that's only going to make you hate your husband if you are just having sex with him out of duty and I'm sure he won't feel loved ether that way.

So for the most part it's an amazing book you should get it and high light important parts cause it's a lot of information, but I would also remember as you read it that its one mans opinion backed up with some research and not all men are like him. Get the book you won't regret it! Also purchased "Secrets of Happily Married Men".

Very insightful and realistic. That was shocking. No wonder so many seek help, right? What a racket. We are supposed to struggle and turn to God, who is the only one perfect and able to render help and fulfillment missing. We blame our spouse, they get defensive, etc. They have their own set of faults and holes dealing with. Deal with your side of the equation and praise the other for working on theirs. Good times sometimes years and bad times, hang in there.

The grass on the other side has its issues too and could be worse? I bought this book because of the great reviews. My husband and I have been having some issues--communication, feeling close to each other, lack of romance, etc. Nothing too serious but serious enough that I want to improve it.

I'm disappointed because this book is based on stereotypes Let's just say that I can't relate to these topics because that just isn't the way it is in my house. The first chapter talks about getting to know your man, and goes through 7 traits that apply to "men. The author DOES say that not all men apply to all of the traits. I don't know--I just feel that unless if you have a very sterotypical marriage with stereptypical gender roles and stereptypical problems, this book isn't that much help.

It was SOME help I understand that basic concepts of rewarding good behavior, not nagging, showing appreciation, not taking for granted, and all of that and I agree with it. But I was hoping for more help, and this just wasn't much help for me. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. Instead of trying to get more out of your relationship by doing less as the author recommends, how about investing your whole heart into your connection with your husband?

You might be amazed to see what happens! Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Sometimes just having a better understanding on how the opposite sex thinks helps put things into perspective.

This book does that with a sense of humour. I would recommend this book to any woman who has responded to something your male partner has done by standing there with that look on your face that says "Seriously, I mean really; did you just say that or do that, etc".

I have fewer of these moments now, not that they happen less often but because I've accepted it is about him and I do not take it so personally. One person found this helpful. You've read the top international reviews. Customers who bought this item also bought these digital items.

About six months after my son was born, he and I were sitting on a blanket at the park with a close friend and her daughter. It was a sunny summer weekend, and other parents and their kids picnicked nearby—mothers munching berries and lounging on the grass, fathers tossing balls with their giddy toddlers. Right yet, surveyed the idyllic scene. But it was also decidedly not the dream.

But the truth is that even the happiest marriages , can be rocked by cheating. There are many reasons husbands and wives cheat.

W hen Americans debate the value of marriage, most attention focuses on the potential harm to children of divorce or illegitimacy, and for good reason. Mountains of research tell us that children reared outside of intact marriages are much more likely than other kids to slip into poverty, become victims of child abuse, fail at school and drop out, use illegal drugs, launch into premature sexual activity, become unwed teen mothers, divorce, commit suicide and experience other signs of mental illness, become physically ill, and commit crimes and go to jail. On average, children reared outside of marriage are less successful in their careers, even after controlling not only for income but also for parental conflict. Yes, marriage protects children.

7 Reasons Why the Women Men Date Aren’t the Ones They Marry

Men and women want a lot of the same things from a significant other, but there are also some key differences between what each gender needs from their partners to have a satisfying relationship. Everyone wants to know they're loved and wives rarely tire of hearing those three little words—"I love you"—from their husbands. In fact, the best ways to express how you feel are usually in simple, seemingly unimportant acts like giving her an unexpected hug or holding hands when you walk together. There will be days when your wife will make mistakes or when she'll be difficult to be around. No one and that includes you too is perfect. She both wants and deserves your willingness to understand and forgive her. Remember that no relationship, and especially marriage, can be sustained without forgiveness. Women especially want you to understand that the hormonal fluctuations that impact her mood are very real. So don't make fun of her or say she's "crazy" when she's got her period or is pregnant or going through menopause.

Marry Him!

When you are attracted to a married woman, it is important to note that just like it is the case with a single woman, you are the one who needs to pursue. Also, you need to understand that your success rates are much lower than when you are hitting on a single woman and so you have to be smart about it. Here are some tips that will help you attract that hot married woman with ease:. The number one rule of being able to seduce any woman, let alone a married woman, is telling her that she is beautiful.

It's no surprise that men and women are wired differently when it comes to relationships and marriage , but it's not as different as we think. It's not that men do NOT want to get married , it's that they don't want to marry someone just because they are a certain age, nor are worried what others will say. Even in this day and age, most men feel it is their responsibility to provide for their family. It's an emotional burden that they choose—not because they are forced to, but because they want to, and all they expect in return is support and encouragement. Men are insecure, too. They are worried that they aren't making it in life—not just in the work force but also at home.

5 Signs You Need to Marry Your Girlfriend

T here are male dating gurus who train men in the dark art of the female putdown. They tell guys that playing hard to get is the way to make a woman fall head over heels; that women prefer men who behave like jerks, with a touch of humor thrown into the mix. There is some truth to their claims: when we obtain what is hard to get, we appreciate it more. Sensing signs of love from a jerk may feel like more of an achievement than from a guy who constantly dotes on us or on any woman he lays his eyes on. But these male dating gurus are not entirely right, either. Behaving like a jerk for too long builds resentment. Sometimes those negative feelings surface with a vengeance and we simply fall out of love, almost overnight.
