I am 44 years old and entering the dating scene again for the first time in 25 years. Where do you go to meet someone at my age? I am not doing the online singles sites…that is just scary to me. I am new in town, with a few happily married friends.

I'm not opposed to meeting new men and realize that in order to find a suitable romantic partner, I have to risk. But some of his suggestions are a little strong for my taste. Taking a class? Going to singles functions? But meeting a guy at a store or a restaurant? How do I know he isn't a creep or a serial killer? I realize that the same rules apply at a singles group as at a restaurant or other public place. Being safe means being safe no matter where you are.
But for some reason, I feel like meeting a guy at a singles function means that he's a "better" guy. I may be wrong. By the way, I agree about singles functions. They don't usually work. So, I can either go to a single function that doesn't work with "better" guys or I can meet a guy in public?
What sort of choice is THAT? Btw, singles organizers are often creeps. He's right about that. I think that's the toughest part about being single in the city. It's knowing that you want to be open to serendipity and meeting a guy but also knowing that there is "stranger danger.
There's some good stuff in his other books about avoiding players, spotting manipulative men, being safe, and a lot of other "relationship killers" his words. And his book on online dating should be recommended reading for any girl who dates online. Overall, I give this a thumb's up.
But I'm going to wait and see how his tips pan out for me. I realize that there are no guarantees in life. And I agree with the other reviewers.
Why is this just about finding single Jewish guys? I liked the direction this book was taken in. It was a smart read, especially for me as a girl living in New York who can't seem to find the right man. Or any man for that matter. I was reading some of the reviews before I posted, and I actually agree with the author on meeting someone new at a store or restaurant.
I like the excitement of going somewhere new and not knowing if you'll connect with the person you're about to meet. I think this book was written for me! The points Prefontaine brings up throughout have actually helped me in my search through N. Y safely of course. The voice throughout is fresh and current with the times which I have had problems with while reading other dating-help books.
Sometimes they just sound like they were written in I found it helpful that I was able to imagine the places I should try out in N. Y letting me believe the author is truly from there as well and I can't wait to try some of the other places out and start my own journey. I would suggest this to any adult who is having trouble finding someone Thanks for a great read. I was hoping for a more updated girl's guide to getting a guy. I was not disappointed! The work is funny, unique, and I laughed out loud at times.
It reads as though the author is speaking to a friend about the ins-and-outs of finding available guys. There are a few typos all self-published work have one or two but overall it is a great read. I zoomed through the material and then forwarded it to my 'forever single' friend as a way to expand her own search for a good man. We both want a book written just like this but about our own hometown. Never thought of some of these. Just read this book since I got it for free. What a steal! This short little book offers some great ideas for meeting single men and some of them I never really considered.
I'll definitely have to try some similar places out. I love how some of the 10 have little runners up and there are small "asides" throughout the book which really make the book seem personal and give it more depth.
And I was surprised to see what 1 was but I don't want to give it away haha. Overall, Mr. Prefontaine has done well once again and I suggest you buy this book for tips on how to find a good guy. It's a good find! Overall, some great new spot for meeting single guys. From downtown to uptown and every place in between.
I know some people criticize Prefontaine because his books always warn women about potential predators, but I like his writing. He has a concerned spirit and that comes through. Being single has its challenges, but Prefontaine knows NYC dating and this is a great help.
Dear Single Women of NYC: It’s Not Them, It’s You.
My longest relationship lasted two years. There was the super-successful corporate honcho with a cardboard box for a nightstand. The best friend with whom I had zero sexual attraction.
